VISIT TO THE DRUM, WEDNESDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER 2010 11-12.30 PM

The Drum is a Black-led multi art-form venue that is dedicated to the development, celebration and presentation of African, Asian and Caribbean arts and cultural activities for the benefit of all. The drum supports the development of contemporary Black artistic practice and involves people from every section of the community in cultural activities that challenge and delight. The drum's work includes:

  • Programmes, training and education initiatives supportive of contemporary Black arts practice.
  • A programme of spoken word, film, dance, multimedia training, jazz, comedy, theatre, visual arts, music and workshops
  • Speakeasy: A networking forum for theatre artists and other practitioners
  • Young Gifted Brum: A continuous programme of free weekly creative workshops for children and young people

  • A brief history of The Drum
  • Some of the theories that underpin the work
  • The different contexts in which The Drum works
  • Outline of the current programme (concerts, outreach, education)

In addition, individuals were offered an opportunity to ask more specific questions pertaining to their own studies, interest or area of research.
