Hybrid is delighted to be delivering 1 mile². 1 mile² is a new arts, ecology and community programme in partnership with the British Council, Urban Living and Visiting Arts - www.square-mile.net

1 mile² asks communities to map their neighbourhood exploring the biodiversity, cultural diversity, and aesthetic diversity (buildings and open spaces) of their local area. Working in collaboration with an artist(s) and ecologist, the programme brings together social and environmental sustainability via a creative medium.

There are 4 UK based projects (Bradford, Edinburgh, Waltham Forest, and Smethwick) and 6 projects taking place internationally (Dhaka, New Delhi, Johannesburg, Karachi, Tehran and Shanghai). We are linked through an internet platform that shares our experiences, knowledge, ideas, attitudes and creativity – Smethwick’s includes audio, moving image, photography and text.

1 mile² was developed by Visiting Arts, a UK charity that works to strengthen intercultural understanding through the arts by creating opportunities for artists to explore new connections and expanding the skills and knowledge of cultural professionals.

Hybrid is delivering the Smethwick programme in partnership with Urban Living, the housing renewal pathfinder for Birmingham & Sandwell, Ulfah Arts and the Wildlife Trust.
