The journey continues...

We have been working on ideas for creative solutions to our household recycling issues and are in the process of collating ideas and putting them into practice.

We have also been researching lots of different sites to find as much information as possible.  What struck us as interesting though is how far behind other countries we are and why.  Lots of other countries have systems in place that have been running successfully for years and offer creative solutions to this continuing problem. Please check      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4620041.stm for an article on what other countries are doing so successfully.

It is important that peoples awareness is raised and their attitudes changed as many see recycling as a chore or an extra hassle when it does not have to be.

After looking on the Birmingham city council website it was interesting to find out that there are so many items that have no where to go as the council do not take them.  They are therefore ending up in landfills.  According to the council these items cannot be taken:

  • plastic tubs
  • yoghurt pots
  • drinking glasses
  • pyrex
  • food cartons and trays
  • carrier bags
  • mirrors
  • light bulbs
  • polystyrene
  • foil

What could you do with these items?

Please help us in our mission to change the world and if you have any comments or ideas, let us know.
